Earth Month 2014: Light the Way

Posted on Mar 29, 2014 in Community Efforts, Earth Month, Environmental Responsibility, Promotions

Since 1999, Aveda’s global network has set aside an entire month to love, celebrate and raise funds to protect our earth and people.  Since then, our passion and commitment has helped to raise over $22 million for clean water projects.

This April the beautiful Earth Month Campaign tells a story of the remote village in Umbari, India. For this village, getting water can be difficult. Women spend hours each day away from their families, traveling by foot to streams for water and carrying buckets home for drinking and household use. This water is often contaminated and brings serious health and safety risks to their families.   Aveda asked the children of Umbari what clean water means to them, and their drawings speak to clean water as a basic necessity. The illustrations show the happiness and difference clean water projects, like Global Greengrants funds, can bring to their village.

“Less than 1% of the world’s fresh water is readily accessible for direct human use.”
