Pregnancy and Massage: What are your options?

You’re pregnant and your body aches. You want a massage, but maybe you’re not sure what options are available to you. At Rejuvenation Spa, we offer four options to expectant mothers.


Option 1: Regular Massage (30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes)

If you are in your first trimester and have approval from your doctor to lie on your stomach, you can book a session as a normal massage. Just be sure to let your massage therapist know that you are pregnant.

Option 2: Side-Lying Massage (45 minutes)

Once you no longer feel comfortable lying on your stomach, we offer side-lying massage where you are supported by cushions. This form of massage allows your massage therapist to access all of your specific aches and pains while you and your baby remain comfortable. You will spend half the time on one side and the second half on your other side. This can be a full body massage or a more focused session on specific ailments such as low back pain. Recommended for all stages of pregnancy. Belly massage is available upon request.

Option 3: Hydrotherm Massage (45 minutes)

If you prefer to remain on your back for your entire massage, then the Aveda Hydrotherm System may be ideal for you. You will lie on warm water-filled cushions while the massage therapist slides his or her arms and hands underneath of you for a relaxing massage. Please note that this massage is not recommended after 36 weeks due to potential slippage from weight distribution on the water cushions.

Option 4: Chair Massage

Often overlooked, the 15-minute chair massage is another great option for you if you have neck or back pain but don’t want a full session. You’ll get quick results at any stage of your pregnancy.
